Costa Adeje is an upmarket resort on the southern coast of Tenerife that attracts the discerning traveller who enjoys attractive, sophisticated sandy beaches and luxurious hotels. Jardines de Nivaria is one such hotel which is surrounded by beautiful grounds and boasts top-notch dining and attentive service. And with direct access to the beach, it makes for a fun, fantastic holiday destination for everyone, as Sabi Phagura found out.

One of the first things that struck me about this hotel was the attentive service. It’s no wonder guests return year-on-year. Having had a huge overhaul, Jardines de Nivaria can be described as a classic Art Deco hotel blended with contemporary architectural features.

They have a fantastic video uploaded on YouTube showing the complete makeover condensed in just three minutes. It’s rather impressive.

Its open plan tiered lobby gives the guests the feeling they have truly arrived somewhere special. The floor-to-ceiling windows allow plenty of light towards the back and front of the building, while the middle is a few shades darker, designed that way to provide a more cosy ambience.

Abstract furniture and paintings sit alongside stunning brass figurines and huge plants with ease under a magnificent stained-glass dome.

Outside, the focal point is most definitely the meandering swimming pool, one-half of which is heated. It’s surrounded by avant-garde showers, footbridges and waterfalls and is set within immaculate gardens.

The direct access to the popular Fanabe beach is a great touch and leads you to a promenade from where you can spend hours walking along the seafront. And when you’re done, the day beds in the hotel’s landscaped grounds are just perfect for resting on.

There are a number of room options here. Set in a series of blocks circulating the grounds, the rooms are contemporary, spacious and airy thanks to the ivory shades and are kitted with natural wood furniture and black panelling on doors.

Some rooms, like my own, had a walk-in wardrobe, which I personally loved. There’s nothing worse than trying to find enough space to hang your clothes in a cramped little cubie hole.

I particularly adored the Corner Superior suite because it provided a great view of the ocean views from the huge windows.

Whether relaxing on the bed after a stroll in the area, sitting in the living room space watching TV, or reading my book, it felt very much like being at home rather than just a cramped hotel room.

Meanwhile, the separate bathtub with a jacuzzi and a walk-in shower meant I had complete pampering whenever I chose to retire to my room.

Additional pampering can be had in the newly refurbished Aequor spa, one of which I took full advantage of.

The outdoor-indoor spa area, with its cave-like design, was tranquil, while a thermal circuit with jets dotted around the sides was just what I needed to massage my entire body after a gruelling session at the gym.

For those wishing to exercise outdoors, a floodlit synthetic grass tennis court is available on-site, and there are several golf courses in the vicinity.

Guests are well catered for, with comprehensive food choices throughout the day. The daily action happens in the Solandra restaurant, where breakfast is served, as well as a buffet dinner with main courses prepared to order.

Lunch and snacks are served in the La Cascada restaurant al-fresco style alongside the swimming pool and waterfall. But for those who enjoy a spot of fine dining they can go along to the a la carte La Cupula restaurant offering French and Canarian cuisine.

Sitting here with its top-floor panoramic dining room is an experience in itself. Sadly, I didn’t have a chance to sample the fine food here as it was closed on the days I stayed. But it’s definitely something I would add to my list of priorities on a return visit.

The evenings at Jardines de Nivaria are both relaxing and entertaining. Pre or post-dinner drinks can be enjoyed beneath the hotel’s stunning domed ceiling at Tiffany’s bar. Here, you can sip on an indulgent cocktail while listening to piano music and really feel you are a world away from the stresses of everyday life.
