Don Julio Tequila, the world’s original luxury tequila, recently introduced the ultra-premium Tequila Don Julio 1942 into its portfolio.

Popular in the USA since it was first introduced in 2002, this beverage of astonishing depth will appeal to the growing adorers of fine tequila as well as those that share an appreciation for aged brown spirits. Tequila Don Julio 1942 is one of the most coveted tequilas within the Don Julio offering, and has this year become available in the finest bars, restaurants and spirits retailers in the UK.

1942 commemorates the year that late founder and industry icon Don Julio Gonzalez began his tequila-making journey in the Los Altos region in the Highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. The area is known for its rich, clay soils and notable microclimate which is ideal for growing blue agave. Don Julio González spent several decades perfecting his art of tequila making until finally achieving a product with the highest standards of quality – Tequila Don Julio.

In honour of Don Julio’s 60th anniversary of fine tequila making, Tequila Don Julio 1942 was born. Using a personal selection of prime blue agave hand-selected by La Primavera’s jimadors to ensure quality standards that stem from the source, Don Julio González created this unique batch of tequila aged for at least two and a half years in American white oak barrels which are relatively small, measuring only between 200 to 300 litres in size. Adding even more to its exclusivity, Tequila Don Julio 1942 is made with the distillate in Pot Still 6, which produces only three barrels per cycle.

The result is a silky, smooth alluring character that coats the palate with flavours of roasted agave (nicknamed ‘the plant of life’), vanilla, caramel, as well as spiced and smoky undertones to create a wonderfully unique tequila experience. Don Julio cooks the fibrous agaves for 72 hours as they believe that preparing it a slower speed releases essential sugars and makes a large impact on the flavour profile.

Don Julio 1942 is presented in an amber-hued, elongated glass bottle intricately designed after the agave leaf and to represent the ‘length’ of this beverage. This limited-edition tequila is best appreciated when served in a snifter and is the ideal spirit to enjoy while toasting life’s most memorable occasions.

Deano Moncrieffe is the European Brand Ambassador for Don Julio. A 70cl bottle of Tequila Don Julio 1942 is priced at around £160.00, best our advice is to shop around as the price per bottle does vary considerably.
