Name: Rosie Tatchell
Born: 1986
Home: Dorset, England – moving soon to Primrose Hill, London

Expertise: I specialise in a traditional style of oil and charcoal portraiture. Since finishing my studies in Florence two years ago I have rapidly and successfully extended my repertoire to dog portraits and still-lifes.

Best achievements: This summer I successfully had two still-life oil paintings selected to exhibit in the prestigious ‘Society of women artists’ annual exhibition at the Mall Galleries. I have also had successful solo exhibitions. In addition to my painting I have a passion for set design and completed the prestigious course at the London Art School Central Saint Martins. After this course I had the opportunity to work on the film set of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Marmite and a Walkers crisps advert.

Next project: I am currently working towards an exhibition of new work inspired by my trips to northern Sicily. The Exhibition runs from the 11th -20th October in South Cheriton, Somerset. Pictures of my new work will be up on my website after the exhibition.

A little about me: Art has always been a part of my life. My mother is an artist and my father is a photographer, therefore I have always seen places, people and memories as paintings.  When I was in my early teens I spent a few days working alongside the Royal academician James Butler, who told my mother that I had a natural gift and to cherish it.

I went and trained at the atelier of Charles H. Cecil Studios, in Florence, Italy. There I learnt the anatomy of the human figure, how to draw, paint and sculpt from life using a technique called sight-size, which is when the focus of a painting is seen by viewing it from a distance. My passion and love is represented by strong contrasts in my paintings. I will always paint the darkest dark and lightest light. I like to have darker coloured backgrounds in my work to show what I have painted in all its glory.

My ambition is change the way people perceive a simple object, landscape or person.  I wish to be a Royal Academician like the sculptor who inspired me, and to inspire another generation.

My work is available to buy directly from me and can be viewed on my website www.rosietatchell.com
