The French city of Marseille, which was nominated European Capital of Culture for 2013, is set to welcome a new five-star luxury hotel, opening on 25 April.

Perched atop Le Panier, InterContinental Marseille – Hotel Dieu, is a majestic XVIIIth century architectural marvel: a former Hotel Dieu. The building designed by a nephew of the renowned architect Mansart, contains impressive staircases, vaulted passage ways and large terraces, and offers spectacular views of the Vieux Port and the iconic Notre Dame de la Garde Basilica.

A magnificent location for a unique building that is a listed monument, the InterContinental Marseille – Hotel Dieu cannot fail to impress. It is the most significant and impressive of Marseille’s 5* hotels, offering 194 rooms, including 22 suites. 72 of these rooms showcase sensational, panoramic views of the Vieux Port and a number of suites have imposing private terraces, overlooking the stunning city centre, whilst boasting breath-taking panoramic vistas.

From the hotel windows, one has the impression of being within the beating heart of this bustling, ancient city which is an exciting and evolving destination. Entrusted to the capable hands and creativity of Jean-Philippe Nuel, a renowned expert and a world reference in luxury hotel design, the architecture of the InterContinental Marseille – Hotel Dieu remains faithful to the spirit and the history of this venerable institution. Its design echoes the ancient monuments of the city, while also drawing its inspiration from the Mediterranean Ocean, the cradle of civilisation.

The new property aims to ensure that a unique Marseille food experience will tantalise the palate of guests thanks to exquisite cuisine and diversity. A choice of two restaurants are available; the brasserie that extends onto an outdoor terrace boasting superb views, and the 40-seat gourmet dining area which offers a menu boasting local fish and seafood specialties.

The atmosphere of the hotel spa is that of total relaxation and tranquil calm; the sensual Clarins Spa managed by Deep Nature, showcases a vast 1,000 m2 complex equipped with an indoor pool, two saunas and a hammam, together with six beauty treatment booths exclusively using Clarins products. This serene haven has been beautifully decorated with contemporary additions of traditional style Provencal wash bowls and lavoirs, providing visitors with a soothing, reinvigorating plunge into the warm and sensual waters of the Mediterranean.

The InterContinental Marseille – Hotel Dieu equally hosts an array of events in its 1,000 m2 conference centre. In addition, its cultural centre will serve as a showcase for its ancestral, architectural heritage.
