In what will come as excellent news for travellers worldwide, the Republic of Mauritius has announced it will be dropping the requirement for all incoming visitors to present a negative PCR test before being allowed into the country.

The Republic of Mauritius, the island nation in the Indian Ocean known for its seemingly endless miles of white sandy beaches, has become far more accessible from today.

Previously, those wanting to visit the beautiful part of the world needed to prove a negative PCR test result, which needed to have been taken within 72 hours before departure. However, this is no longer the case, with the Ministry of Health and Wellness announcing that this requirement has been removed.

Across the world, countries have begun removing restrictions as they find ways to ‘live with’ COVID-19. Mauritius’ move now makes things easier for business and leisure travellers to visit this Indian Ocean Island, and as expected, the decision has been broadly welcomed by those working in the hospitality sector.

Since last October, the demand from tourists and business travellers has soared following the reopening of its borders to international travel, which coincided with the loosening of travel restrictions in many of Mauritius’ key markets, and this influx will no doubt continue to rise given the latest announcement.

Mauritius is one of the world’s best holiday destinations mainly due to its incredible beaches, stunning mountains and lagoons, business opportunities, and renowned safety and security. As of the time of publishing this article, data shows that 90% of the Mauritian adult population has now been fully vaccinated, and this is due to the country’s highly-successful ongoing booster dose campaign.

The Director of Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority Arvind Bundhun said, “We are delighted that the Ministry of Health and Wellness has reviewed the sanitary protocol for visitors to Mauritius. Automatically this renders the experience of travelling to Mauritius far easier and more streamlined. We expect a further boost to tourism numbers as demand for travel to Mauritius is currently ramping up.”
