A zingy colour scheme and chic furnishings flow throughout the hotel’s communal areas, too. We popped into the bar and library before dinner, where we saw both guests and locals.

The bar has almost any tipple you might fancy, from local craft beers to fine wines and even “legendary” cocktails. Legendary because you won’t find them anywhere else in the country – they’re mixed with the bar’s homemade syrups.

The restaurant focuses on fresh, locally-sourced produce with a sprinkling of originality.

Like the rest of the inn, classic Cotswolds’ stone walls and beams are contrasted by contemporary furniture. White, rustic walls bring the whole space together to create a snug dinner spot where you could while away the hours.

Head Chef, Wayne Sullivan has modelled his menu on his time on MasterChef: The Professionals. He appeared on the hit show last year reaching the semi-finals.

My lovingly-plated gin-cured salmon starter was light and refreshing, with zesty sorbet and squid ink rice crackers.

For my main, I wanted the whole trout from nearby Bibury Trout Farm, however, we were informed that their delivery was not up to scratch – a tell-tale sign of the chef’s commitment to quality. Instead, I tucked into the Brill, which was balanced on a hearty pile of mash, parsley root and samphire.

Highlights from our dessert order include the irresistible ‘Chocolate’. It’s a plateful of decadence, including praline paste, chunks of Aero-style cake, chocolate popcorn and popping candy.

The chef’s take on a Banoffee Pie is worth a mention too, with generous dollops of caramel and a pinch of smoked salt.
