Simon Wittenberg takes a look at the arrival of the third edition of the Redbreast bird feeder, a unique gift for whiskey lovers this Christmas.
Redbreast Irish Whiskey has unveiled its latest bird feeder bottle – sporting an elegant red copper finish in time for Christmas. The limited edition metal feeder sits over a bottle of Redbreast 12 and is available for £59.95 in the UK. It certainly offers the best of both worlds for nature and wildlife and does not come at much of a premium compared to buying the whiskey on its own (£49.95).
It really is a win-win, as whiskey lovers get to sample a much-loved tipple, which has been matured in a combination of bourbon and sherry casks, whilst feathered visitors to the garden get to enjoy some vital sustenance, especially during colder weather.
The stylish and collectable bird feeder, which can be hung from a fence hook or tree branch courtesy of the light brown leather strap, was first seen in 2020, following the launch of the partnership between the world’s most awarded single pot still Irish whiskey, and charity BirdLife International.
In 2021, an impressive €70,000 for the bird conservation charity partner as part of this unique initiative. With over 13% of 11,000 different species threatened each year, the joint mission between BirdLife International, the world leader in bird conservation with more than 10 million members, and Redbreast, seeks to increase awareness to help keep commonly-seen birds, such as the famed Robin, around for generations to come.
Last year also saw the debut of Redbreast’s very first ‘Robin Redbreast Day’, an annual global commemoration on 17th November, which looks to raise awareness and donations for the common birds. The money raised from both the sales of the limited edition and through donations supports all the conservation work BirdLife International does around the world.
The whiskey makers also teamed up with comedic actor Chris O’Dowd to create a tongue-in-cheek clip that featured the brand’s iconic mascot, Robin Redbreast, talking about what life is like as a bird. The distillers donated 25 cents to BirdLife International for every view the video received.
With the last two Redbreast bird feeders flying off the shelves, the festive red version is also destined to take off as we enter the gift-buying season for Christmas.
