For those eager for a far-flung getaway, take a look at the Hoshino Resorts RISONARE Kohamajima. This resort is an almost undiscovered destination as it was only open for a brief time before a certain virus hit. Read why we believe it should be on your Japanese travel-list below.

RISONARE Kohamajima sits on the beach-lovers’ paradise of Kohamajima in the YaeYama Islands. It is a newly built property with 60 modern and spacious private suites built around a pristine lagoon.

Adding an extra touch of luxury, all the suites have their own terrace and daybed, and some offer private pools and jacuzzi-style outdoor bathtubs.

RISONARE Kohamajima first opened in April 2020 but sadly had to close shortly after welcoming its first guests due to the global pandemic. However, it has now reopened its doors offering guests a rural coastal retreat in an idyllic island setting.

If you’re not familiar with the climate in this part of the world, you might be in for a surprise. Okinawa boasts a year-round warm climate comparable to Hawaii and Cancun, making it a great option for winter-sun breaks or travel in early 2021.

For the sport and fitness-minded among you, the resort has an 18-hole golf course, two large outdoor swimming pools and a beach-front location, perfect for those wanting to do their own thing or just to get some escape and seclusion to clear one’s mind.

If you require some extra-special pampering, you have the options of embracing the natural healing properties of the sea or some therapeutic traditions from Okinawa’s Ryukyu heritage. The resort’s spa also offers guests a range of treatments to enrich the body and soul which given what that year has already presented us would be a welcome treat for everyone.

Other facilities include waterfront restaurant Ooli Ooli and a beach book cafe with a library to enjoy by the ocean.

For those keen to discover more of Okinawa, there is a selection of activities and excursions to choose from including; snorkelling at a local ‘mythical island’, a calming evening SUP by sunset, moon beach yoga below the stars, sea canyoning, jet blading, stargazing and local craft classes.

RISONARE Kohamajima has reopened with enhanced hygiene management in place. This includes social distancing measures, temperature checks for all guests on arrival, additional sanitisation of guest rooms and public spaces and a ‘take out’ style food service for guests that prefer to dine in their suites. Full details can be found on the resort’s website.
