It’s always exciting when two well-known brands from entirely different market sectors come together. In this article, we look at the boatbuilder Riva, and watchmaker Frederique Constant whose close relationship has resulted in a new limited-edition collection of timepieces called the Runabout RHS Chronograph Automatic.

The Frederique Constant Runabout RHS Chronograph Automatic is a beautiful timepiece that combines the history of Riva boats with the design talents of the Swiss watchmaker.

Cards on the table, we’ve been fans of Frederique Constant ever since the magazine was created well over a decade ago. Probably the main reason behind this is they produce good looking, decent quality timepieces and unlike some brands don’t expect customers to pay an unjustifiably high price for them.

In 2009, the two brands decided to create closer ties, and this relationship has remained strong ever since. The limited-edition Runabout RHS Chronograph Automatic model is in honour of this and will be strictly limited to just 2,888 pieces.

The RHS Chronograph Automatic watches are inspired by Riva’s heritage, imagery and universe. “Runabout” exudes the artisan skills of the Italian companies’ Craftsmen along with both brands dedication to luxury.

The new models reflect Riva’s sporting past where, in 1962 they manufactured models with two engines, each producing 185 bhp. These were built at Lake Iseo, the birthplace of Riva, used for the adrenaline-fuelled water sports.

The watches are powered by the automatic FC-392 calibre movement which is housed within a decent-sized case which measures 42mm. Both of the Runabout RHS Chronograph Automatic models share a tricompax chronograph (12 o’clock – 6 o’clock – 9 o’clock) and have a power reserve of 46 hours.

Choose from either silver or anthracite grey, depending on the model you prefer. Two luminescent hands glide over a date window at 6 o’clock, complemented by a large seconds hand in blued steel. This details the Italian lakes with their vibrant blue water. The blue theme can also be found in the topstitching on the black calfskin straps.

On the backplate of each watch, exclusivity is shown in two places highlighting the strictly limited number of 2,888 pieces for each model.

Individual numbers are engraved on each watch, secondly, an original imprint representing RHS Ensign featuring on the sapphire crystal of the watch.

Each watch comes in a beautiful case with a miniature replica of the legendary Riva moored alongside it.

As a lover of watches and the Riva boats, these models would be desirable to me, and I think many others. It appeals to both Riva enthusiasts and watch-lovers. The limited number means you need to get your order in quickly.
