Value Retail Founder Scott Malkin has added two new hotels to the travel map, the Mission Pacific Hotel and the Seabird Resort Oceanside California. In this article, Sabi Phagura takes a look at what guests can expect from both hotels.

Every year sees a host of new hotels opening around the globe, but there may be a few more flinging their doors open this year due to an abysmal 2020 when pretty much the whole hospitality industry shut down. Now with things (almost) back to normal, we can dare dream again and start planning our escape in the not-so-distant future. We are pleased to announce two new hotels – Mission Pacific Hotel and the Seabird Resort Oceanside California – have just opened.

The pair of hotels have been created and developed by Value Retail founder Scott Malkin and his firm, S. D. Malkin Properties. They are better known as the team behind the luxury open-air shopping destination, The Bicester Village Shopping Collection. Let’s take a closer look at them.

Mission Pacific Hotel
If you’ve been missing the sun at the seaside this staycation due to Britain’s poor weather reputation, you’re most likely to get it here. Mission Pacific Hotel is a vibrant beachfront sanctuary with a laid-back spirit. The relaxed and Southern Californian abode has 161 guest rooms, including 38 suites featuring gentle colours, giant cosy beds and salty air wafting throughout. And you don’t have to step outside of the hotel to appreciate the great outdoors.

Just take a lift to the expansive rooftop to enjoy the fresh air lounging in the pool and jacuzzi. There’s plenty of private cabanas and lounge seating, too, from where you can take in endless Pacific views and sip on a sundowner. But should you want to venture out, an exclusive beach kiosk provides guests with everything they need for a day of surf and sand, from chairs and umbrellas to sunscreen, towels, flip-flops, surfboard rentals, and more.

On the culinary front, adventurous tastes are catered for at the four distinct food and beverage experiences that range from surf-casual to upscale. Valle, a Guadalupe Valley Kitchen, will debut this summer as the hotel’s signature restaurant, helmed by acclaimed Chef Roberto Alcocer.

Featuring a spacious outdoor dining veranda overlooking the ocean and a private dining room, Valle will underscore California culinary inspiration rooted in the traditions of the Guadalupe Valley and delivered by one of Baja’s most celebrated chefs. The Rooftop at Mission Pacific is Oceanside Beach’s first rooftop bar, where guests can enjoy a range of speciality cocktails, craft beers, and inventive cuisine by Chef Alcocer.

High/Low is an easy, breezy oceanfront café featuring crafted bites with an emphasis on natural, fresh ingredients. Mission Pacific collaborates with Tara Lazar, a Southern California native and founder of the innovative hospitality group F10 Creative.

Got a sweet tooth? Charlie’s, a decadent dessert bar in the transformed Graves House, the charming beach cottage as featured in the iconic 1986 film, Top Gun’ has it covered. If you’re worried about piling on the pounds, then don’t. A 24-hour fitness space is available to burn off those pesky calories.

The Seabird Resort
Located next to Mission Pacific Hotel, this 226-room Seabird Resort is full of ocean estate architecture. The beachside resort is home to an expansive pool deck with ocean views. The Shelter Club, a poolside cabana, is a great setting from where guests can sip on a refreshing drink and enjoy snacks. Guests pampering needs are addressed at Sunny’s Spa and Beauty Lounge, featuring authentic farm-to-sea treatments rooted in efficacy.

Food is certainly not to be sniffed here. Chef Kurtis Habecker’s inventive cuisine with ingredients sourced from San Diego’s many small farms takes centre stage at The Seabird’s two inventive food and beverage concepts.

The signature Piper Restaurant showcases seasonal, local produce and celebrated authentic Californian cuisine with an open-kitchen design and a made-to-order pasta station. The Shore Room is a buzzy ocean-view bar focusing on daring mixology and delicious bites serving as a premier spot to catch a classic California sunset.

And there are plenty of activities for guests to get involved in at the Seabird Resort. Embracing Oceanside’s deep-rooted surf culture, a “Surfing by The Seabird” program offers a surf valet experience and lessons, including a private surfing session with North County Surf Academy.

There’s also an opportunity to surf alongside professional surfer and third-generation Oceanside resident, Duran Barr. Launching later in 2021 will be ‘Farm-to-Table Tours,’ immersing guests in Oceanside’s burgeoning agritourism scene with a one-of-a-kind paddock-to-plate experience.

Families can also look forward to the “Little Seabirds” program, a series of interactive, ocean-inspired activities for children such as sandcastle building, kite flying, treasure hunts, arts and crafts, and more. Finally, art-lovers can revel in OMA West, a rotating art gallery at The Seabird Resort that serves as an extension of the Oceanside Museum of Art (OMA). Boredom will not set here, that’s for sure.
