The Smallbone of Devizes Knightsbridge showroom unveils the new Smallbone Kelly Hoppen Collection, in the first collaboration in a long-term relationship with award-winning British designer Kelly Hoppen MBE.

The first collection is a stunning contemporary kitchen designed for the iconic British luxury furniture maker Smallbone of Devizes, by the world-renowned designer.

Kelly’s contemporary vision and clear aesthetic, married with the bespoke furniture skills and exacting standards of the Smallbone craftsmen, creates a stunning kitchen, which is perfectly executed inside and out.

Kelly Hoppen MBE said: “Having designed so many homes, I knew what I wanted in a kitchen.  Firstly, to work with the best craftspeople, namely Smallbone of Devizes.  Secondly, as the hub of the home and the most important room in the house, a kitchen can be the hardest to get right so I wanted to give people something with depth and interest, that they could make their own, yet gives them some guidelines and help to create a stunning look.   I created a palette of colours and textures that can be layered, so it doesn’t look ‘hard’ and functional.   Whether you go with one look or combine textures it all works, whether you like an urban, cool edgy feel or a softer, lighter tone.   The expertise and technical detail of the team at Smallbone have made my ambitions reality and it has been a pleasure to work with them.”

Layers of Texture
The most striking and truly directional aspect is the unique variety of textures and materials: textured oak, pure gloss lacquer, chain mail, honed black Indian granite, Bianco Carrara delicately veined marble, painted basketwork, polished nickel, stainless steel, silver leafed mirror glass, handmade recycled cullet glass with mirror backing and Silestone with a leather finish.  By layering and juxtaposing textures, the look is always fresh, clean and totally aspirational.

Kelly’s Colours
In signature Kelly Hoppen style, the colour palette uses Black, White and Kelly’s Taupe to chic and elegant effect. It doesn’t need anything else but could take a dash of another strong colour in accessories or paint, if the owner were so inclined.

Stand-Out Pieces
Shelving with chain mail from behind which objects peep; a beautiful up-lit dresser cabinet on which to host your own favourite vase; a Mondrian-inspired east-meets-west dresser; an oval dresser with optional marble pastry slab or a sunken bowl for flowers (or chilled Champagne).  These beautiful pieces of kitchen furniture are all talking-points and can be used in endless combinations to bring modernity and sleeklines to your home.

Beautifully Functional
Kelly has astutely designed the kitchen for entertaining – and the way people live today – comfortable, welcoming, appealing and relaxing for guests, yet delightfully practical and thoughtful for Chef.   The central circular island, with concealed drawers, is a homage to Willy Rizzo, one side houses the hob, the other has a raised surface for guests to sit and sip, whilst Chef sautés.   The party is always in the kitchen.

The Smallbone technical team and craftsmen have crafted beautiful cabinetry and ingenious interiors with the satisfying detail and clever thinking for which they are renowned: wine storage, cup holders, spice racks, china and glassware stores, trays for saucepans and casseroles and a long-line larder (one of the few places you will find a handle).

It is the first time Smallbone of Devizes have created something in a modular form and the project has been purposely developed to appeal to a new consumer and be easily exportable, as the demand for the Smallbone brand rises globally.

The Smallbone Kelly Hoppen Collection launches in London in July 2012 and will be found in the Smallbone showrooms, including New York and Russia, later in the year.
