It was way back in 1738 that Pierre Jaquet-Droz set up his first workshop in La Chaux-de-Fonds producing a whole series of long-case clocks with increasingly sophisticated movements that surpass anything before seen.

Move forward a few centuries to 2011 and the brand moves its Ateliers d’Art workshop into its Fine Watchmaking workshop to integrate and preserve the centuries of special expertise that have created the brand’s identity. This move provides the perfect base of Jaquet Droz to continue the meticulous work involved in miniature painting, carving, engraving and paillonné enamel all highlighted within the award-winning Jaquet Droz collections.

It’s this rich plethora of heritage and experience that allows the manufacturer to create timepieces that truly become art. Some of you may remember the Bird Repeater which we acknowledged as the finest watch we had seen in 2012 and still ranks amongst the most beautiful timepieces we have seen to date.

Although not quite as spectacaular and complicated, the Eclipse Mother-of-Pearl is still a beautiful and classy timepiece worthy of carrying the Jaquet Droz Logo.

With great delicacy the mother-of-pearl is skillfully worked into a 39mm timepiece by the Jaquet Droz master craftsmen. With the brand’s best-loved traditional watch complications: time zones and the moon phases. Apart from the date, day, month, and time display a gold moon is subtly revealed at six o’clock by a white mother-of-pearl racquet. Like a spectacle in a night sky studded with eight stars – the watchmaker’s lucky number – the moon unveils or covers its face from full to total eclipse. The fire of the diamonds set on the white gold case light up the refined architecture of this new version of The Eclipse, whose redesigned elegance is addressed to men and women who love poetic watches.
