We didn’t experience any adverse weather conditions during our test drive, so the Q4 system wasn’t really called into action to keep us on the straight and narrow, but having the peace of mind that it was there in case, to get an extra dose of torque if traction is lost, was reassuring.

Talking of safety, the Stelvio model was awarded a five-star NCAP rating at launch, and became the first car in its segment to offer the new electromechanical system that combines stability control with a traditional servo brake.

In terms of the audio entertainment that is supplied courtesy of the ten-speaker Sound Theatre, it was crisp enough when listening to either classical tracks or modern-day vibes, and the DAB system did not seem to get unsettled when switching between counties.

Summary: Gone is the need for the stereotypical comments that have plagued Alfa Romeo’s past, and the Stelvio Milano Edizione is just as ideal as a cruiser, as it is for the daily commute. It’s spacious, is well-equipped and has plenty of power if you don’t want anything too silly in terms of horsepower. Combine this with Italian design and gusto, and this car has really got all the bases covered. We can’t wait to get on our hands on the updated 2020 line-up…
