The embargo has been lifted and Aston Martin’s latest supercar has been revealed to the world. Jeremy Webb reports on the DBS Superleggera, super GT.

The British Marque is not resting on its laurels with the recent introductions of the Vantage and Aston Martin Rapide AMR, and now another thoroughbred is added to the stable.

The Vanquish S, which was Aston’s ultimate GT, is being phased out to reappear in a few year’s time as a completely new model. To fill the void, the company have launched the stunning DBS Superleggera, which really packs a punch.

It is aimed at taking on the Ferrari 812 Superfast and the Bentley Continental GT, and it does this so well—a much more usable car in every sense. The Superleggera is a Super GT Coupe honed from Carbon Fibre, which harkens back to the Italian coach-building skills which led up to the DB4 and 5.

The styling is strong and defined, making it very individual. It has awesome performance from its 5.2 litre V12 engine, which has been built to produce epic torque. This converts to blistering response and performance.

The figures speak for themselves with 725PS, 900Nm of torque, a stunning 0-62mph time of 3.4 seconds and 0-100mph in eye-watering 6.4 seconds. It goes on to a top speed of 211mph, which will eat up Autobahns and carry you across continents. Exactly what you want from a Grand Tourer.

To match the superb performance, the handling has to be the same to allow the car to deliver all that power to the road. A lightweight bonded aluminium chassis is at the heart of the construction, connected to double wishbones at the front and a multi-link system at the rear.

Adaptive damping is standard, using sensors to detect driving conditions as well as the driver’s demands. Three modes are available for the powertrain and chassis. GT, Sport and Sport Plus which are easily selected by the driver to define what type of ride they want.

As expected of an Aston Martin, the car is luxurious, and even in the standard option, the amount of equipment supplied is generous. Keyless entry, Tyre pressure monitoring and a 360-degree camera connected to the parking display.

These are linked to park assist. Bluetooth, DAB and phone streaming audio are fitted, as is an integrated Sat Nav and wi-fi hub. A central dial controls all the infotainment, which you can see on an LCD screen located in the centre of the driver’s console.

Aston Martin President & Chief Executive Officer Dr Andy Palmer said: “DBS Superleggera not only marks the return of a great Aston Martin name but signals our return to the very pinnacle of the Super GT sector. Handsome beyond measure, its lightweight carbon composite and aluminium body is sculpted into a shape with tremendous presence and charisma.

Thanks to the remarkable torque available from its twin-turbo V12, the DBS Superleggera also packs a breath-taking punch, yet its dynamics have been carefully honed to engage drivers of all ability levels. Immaculately styled, obsessively engineered and outrageously potent, the new DBS Superleggera is every inch the Aston Martin flagship”.

The superb craftsmanship of Aston Martins is shown in the luxury interior with numerous amounts of options available for colours and trims.

The DBS Superleggera is a beautiful car to look at and even better to drive. It will prove another winner for the British Marque. It probably is their new Ultimate GT.
