CALLUM is a design and engineering business creating bespoke and limited-edition products that intrigue, excite and tell a story. The company’s latest creation is the CALLUM Lounge Chair. It has announced that from the beginning of next year, it will introduce a limited run of fifty pieces, with customers able to specify bespoke leather trim from an infinite colour palette.

Following demand after its concept reveal last year, Ian Callum announces a limited production series of the CALLUM Lounge Chair. Limited to 50 pieces, the CALLUM Lounge Chair features a carbon fibre structure with a moulded plywood shell encased in smoked eucalyptus veneer. The chair is finished in the finest bespoke leather trim and is a statement piece of furniture for the home or office.

Ian said, “The chair has been inspired by an undisputable design icon, the 1956 Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman. Our creation takes cues from this but has a fresh, elegant and efficient ‘lightness’, both physically and visually, thanks to an exposed carbon fibre’ spine’. We have paired this with a sophisticated wood finish and bespoke luxury leather trim for an end result that is chic and refined.”

The CALLUM Lounge Chair’s exposed carbon fibre in twill weave complements the luxury smoked eucalyptus veneer that encases the custom-moulded plywood shell of the seat, back and ottoman. The star-shaped base is cast aluminium that has been finished by hand to complement the colour of the carbon fibre spine.

Ian and his team have curated a selection of ten leather trim options, with this first example finished in ‘Delta Blue’ Bridge of Weir leather. Customers also have the freedom to handpick their desired leather from an infinite colour palette.

“Creating a chair to meet both the functional demands and desired form is always a great challenge for the designer,” adds Callum. “This started out as a design study, but we received so much interest that we decided to create a limited run of 50 chairs. While furniture does afford some design flexibility that cars don’t, you still have ergonomics, anthropometrics, and overall comfort still at play, so it has brought with it new and exciting challenges for the CALLUM team.”

Due to the production demand, CALLUM has partnered with a prestigious UK furniture manufacturer to craft and trim the bespoke customer requests. A number of the limited-edition chairs have already been specified by customers, with production set to begin in January 2023.

The CALLUM Lounge Chair, in one of the ten CALLUM-curated leather trim colours, is available for £8,500 plus local taxes. Prices for bespoke leather options are available on application. Those interested in commissioning a chair can find more information at callumdesigns.com/callumloungechair.
