Back on the ground, and we had the option to take the hotel’s bikes around the lake and surrounding areas. Not all of the lake can be ridden around, so it’s advised to get some guidance from the concierge on suitable biking trails.

A tennis court and ice rink, along with a state-of-the-art fitness room, are also available at the hotel, but if a gentler approach to fitness is your bag, I would recommend getting yourself to one of the yoga classes, led by the extremely knowledgeable instructor, Phillipe began.

Further relaxation can be sought in the superb modern Palace Wellness & Spa, whose décor is in sharp contrast to the rest of the hotel. Accessed through an underground tunnel, we spent a good few hours in the floor-to-ceiling windowed indoor pool area, before making our way to the large outdoor whirlpool for a spot of fresh air.

For the brave, the ice room in the sauna area, which also includes two saunas and two steam rooms, will most certainly jolt the senses. Not so brave, we preferred to be pampered with the hotel’s signature head-to-toe massage in one of the treatment rooms. And we drifted off to sleep in the relaxation space with a floating fire completely guilt-free.

In summary, we all love to travel in an age where it’s so easy and cheap to do just that. But we still need to look after our planet, so knowing that places like the Badrutt’s Palace Hotel are doing their bit for the environment and sustainable tourism, means we are collectively heading towards a better world.
