Xavier Thuizat, Head Sommelier of Hôtel de Crillon, A Rosewood Hotel, was awarded the prestigious Michelin Guide Sommelier Award in Tours on 18th March 2024.

Xavier has worked in prestigious gastronomic establishments such as Le Relais Bernard Loiseau, Le Meurice, Pierre Gagnaire and Le Peninsula. His career reached a turning point in 2023 when he was named both Best Sommelier of France and Meilleur Ouvrier de France. He received a further distinction in 2024 at the Michelin Guide ceremony. Although he has had a stellar career thus far, it is safe to say that this Sommelier Award is the crowning achievement of his remarkable career.

Xavier Thuizat is well-known for his expertise and skill. He used this to help establish the hotel’s cellar, which, with over 2,500 wines, is known as one of the most extensive in France.

Today, Xavier continues to oversee the wine and spirits programme at Hôtel de Crillon, A Rosewood Hôtel, while promoting the Rosewood Group’s European portfolio, as well as its associated initiatives and awards.

Xavier Thuizat is one of the world’s great Saké experts. He is the third Frenchman to join the exclusive circle of Saké Samurai, having been appointed by His Excellency the Japanese Ambassador to France.

With his Meilleur Ouvrier de France status, Xavier Thuizat is committed to passing on his knowledge and values to his team and training the next generation of talent.

“Receiving this new award is an incredible honour and a wonderful recognition of my commitment to the art of the sommelier. It reinforces my determination to continue innovating and promoting expertise in this domain that is so dear to me,” said Xavier.

A native of the world-famous Burgundy wine region, Xavier Thuizat has a special connection with this land, which he showcases through his profession.

An advocate of authentic sommellerie, he went on to express his gratitude to all the people who have supported him along the way, highlighting the continuous fulfilment he derives from his visits to the vineyards.
