On the 12th of September, Niehku Mountain Villa and the Swedish design agency Stylt received UNESCO’s award Prix Versailles for the world’s best hotel interior 2019, including concept, identity and furnishing within hotels.

Niehku Mountain Villa, a small adventure base with 14 double rooms in the heart of Swedish Lapland, won the prize in tough competition with some of the world’s most beautifully designed hotels, like NoMad Hotel in Los Angeles, Kempinski Muscat, and Datai Langkawi in Malaysia.

Niehku Mountain Villa is the first Scandinavian hotel to receive the award. The jury consists of prominent names within architecture and design, such as creative director Philippe Starck, architect David Adjaye and Michelin chef Ferran Adrià.

Hotel manager, Patrik Strömsten stated: “Together with Stylt we have managed to create a unique interior with a lot of local and natural materials with a feeling that reflects everything we stand for. We aim to give our guests a complete experience of nature, comfort, good vibes and culinary dining.”

“When deciding on beds for the hotel, it came down to two key factors. I previously ran a ski hotel, fully equipped with Hästens bed – 13 years later when the business moved on, the beds were still in fantastic condition. Secondly, Hästens is one of the few brands that offer products in the hotel industry which hold a strong connection between quality and functionality.”
