The mains is where you will find the largest range of dishes on offer, which makes choosing what to have all the more difficult. There’s everything from pork belly and chicken breast, to a vegan burger and roasted cauliflower in the “Larger Plates” section, plus there are all the various cuts of meat under the “Josper Grill” heading.

Roast Beef at the Chop House.

This is exactly where my wife spotted her preference of Cumbrian Herdwick lamb cutlets (£26), which was joined by some roasted cherry vine tomatoes, field mushrooms and watercress for a touch of added flavour. Just like the meal thus far, it was delicious, and the Chop House certainly ensures that guests don’t leave with any lingering sign of hunger.

Following a period of prolonged discussion and toing and froing, I continued the marine theme, and sampled the line caught Newlyn cod (£20) from Cornwall, which was decorated with a small portion of roasted aubergine, cherry tomato and courgette ratatouille, as well as a helping of roasted artichoke. The fillet was divine, and the smoky-like topping finished it off perfectly.

There are a few sides to accompany the mains, and these include a few different types of vegetables and salad. We shared some nice roast new potatoes with sprint onion and mint (£5.50) and a bowl of glazed organic carrots (£4.50).

The Choc Mango dessert at the Chop House.

All desserts at the Chop House are priced at £7, and there are many of the favourites on the menu, such as chocolate mousse, cheesecake and strawberry Eton mess. After spending a while deliberating, it was the sticky toffee pudding with a helping of clotted cream which won over my taste buds, and it was sensational! My wife closed her meal off with a couple of scoops of refreshing homemade lemon and lychee sorbet.

From start to finish, our dinner at the Chop House was excellent, and the staff were both knowledgeable and helpful when it came to their recommendations. If you’re in the City and looking for great food and service, plus rooftop views and cocktails, then South Place Hotel has it all. They have truly mastered the art of hospitality, and after being so well looked after from start to finish, we will definitely be back.
