For the slightly more active you may want to try the Jungle Walk with the resident naturalist, Malaysian born Yip Yoon Wah. ‘Uncle Yip’ as he is affectionately known leads guests on daily morning treks through the islands jungle rainforest, offering all sorts of information about the flora and fauna, funny anecdotes and stories. Past treks have witnessed ‘Uncle Yip’ cajoling a pit viper from the bushes, pointing out giant spiders, Pangolins, Wild Boar and various colourful insects and wildlife.

There are two jungle treks you can take on the island – the Northern and Southern Perimeter Treks. The Northern trail is the usual route cutting through the island via the original rain forest, this route is a little over 500 metres long (up and down hill) and takes approximately one hour to complete. You don’t have to go with Uncle Yip and are free to undertake the treks on your own, during your trek you will probably see Hornbills, Macaque Monkeys and Monitor Lizards. Other wildlife on the island includes Sea Eagles, Brahminy Kite Eagles, Herons, Pit Vipers, and Agamid Lizards. As for plants there are at least 10 species of Orchids on Pangkor Laut, including the world’s smallest, the leaf-less orchid and biggest – commonly called the Tiger Orchid.

There are two cruises that can be taken during your stay at Pangkor Laut Resort, the first being a Private Cruise on the 34 ft sailing yacht ‘The Impian’. On this cruise you can experience the exhilaration of sailing the high seas on the resort’s private sports sailing yacht. If you feel inclined you can discover the basics of sailing or just relax and leave everything in the hands of the skilled crew. Basking on the sun deck as you glide through the sparkling waters surrounding Pangkor Laut and nibble on the specially prepared gourmet picnic basket.

The second is the Sunset Cruise that takes place on selected days during the week. Setting out in the early evening on the resorts very own Oriental Teak Wood Junk, you’ll take a leisurely cruise around the island to witness the beautiful sunset with visits to some of the islands beautiful bays. During your cruise you will be served a choice of refreshing non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages and appetizers from the crew while relaxing on the main deck or on the loungers and day beds on the upper deck. Newly wed Mr and Mrs Daniel and Mimi Lau had a wonderful time on the Sunset Cruise and said of Pangkor Laut Resort ‘”Its so unique that there is nothing to compare it to” and “The service is fantastic”.

Another of the ‘Signature’ activities you can undertake is the fantastic Chef’s Kitchen Experience, you can find out how we got on taking this experience here.
