“From romantic Private and Fine Dining to a wonderful picnic on the beach – Pangkor Laut has all the bases covered”

Pangkor Laut Resort does not disappoint when it comes to the choice of dining. Aside from the wide variety of restaurants detailed below there is also an opportunity to have a picnic basket ready for you to eat at the stunning Emerald Bay or indeed anywhere else that takes your fancy. We wanted a little time to ourselves so our choice was to have the picnic on the balcony of our Sea Villa with the waves lapping beneath our feet. The wicker basket waiting for us contained everything we needed, a bottle of wine, table-cloth, napkins, cutlery and our choice of salads, fruits, snacks and sandwiches all perfectly prepared and packaged. It was a surreal and wonderful experience sitting out over the sea with a well stocked picnic hamper, glass of wine in hand looking down at the turquoise sea and shoals of envious fish.

Another type of dining to consider is the Chef’s Kitchen Experience, an almost all day package where you will cook your own meals with one of the highly trained chefs. You can read more about this here.

Places to eat
The Feast Village is a hive of activity, with a Cafe, Patisserie, Chef’s table and well stocked wine cellar. Breakfast is reserved for those with eyes larger than their belly with a multitude of choices from fresh fruits and juices, Local, Western, Indian and Japanese foods all of which seem to shout at you ‘Try me”.

The Royal Bay Beach Club sits proudly overlooking the infinity pool serving a choice of Asian and Western cuisine, during the evening the restaurant transforms into a chic chill-out lounge serving cocktails and other beverages.

On the opposite side of the Island can be found Chapman’s Bar, named after a famous British Colonel who sought refuge at Emerald Bay before his dramatic escape 1945. The bar sits on Emerald Bay, and serves excellent light lunches daily, including sandwiches, traditional satay, salads and tasty seafood dishes. A variety of beverages are also served throughout the day. Jamu Bar is in an enclave of Spa Village overlooking the Straits of Malacca, the bar serves Japanese and other healthy food for lunch and for those wanting something more intimate – private dinners.

Fisherman’s Cove offers a truly unique symphony of Western Grill, fresh seafood and Italian cuisine. With a dynamic open show-kitchen, stunning sea view and state-of-the-art design helping to create a true fine dining atmosphere. The service and attention at Fisherman’s Cove is impeccable, we opted to try two of the seafood dishes. After being seated, the attentive waiter efficiently took our orders and a short while later our soup appetizer was served. This was quickly followed by a surprise entrée of fish and vegetables configured like a small work of culinary art. Our appetite whetted, we now eagerly awaited the two main courses, one being freshly cooked grouper and my choice – The Fisherman’s Cove signature dish of Prawns and Lobster. As expected the food and presentation was first class. The last part of our very enjoyable fine dining experience was the desserts, beautifully crafted, full of flavour and eaten with gusto much to the protestation of my waistline.

A short walk away can be found Uncle Lim’s Kitchen that overlooks the sea and is probably second only to the Feast Village in popularity. The restaurant is named after the chef that has been with the resort since inception and specialises in Nyonya and Hockchew Chinese-style home cooking. Very popular with the guests that have brought a younger family and a cacophony of laughter and chatter.

Finally we have The Straits serving some of the finest cuisine drawn from South East Asian influences, The Straits is set against the rocks, by the beach, providing exotic dining in an elegant and beautiful environment, with sumptuous silks juxtaposing natural timber and granite. Private dining booths line both sides of the restaurant with one side offering exclusive views of the sea. Children under the age of 16 are not allowed in this restaurant and proper dress code is required with shirt, full-length trousers and shoes for gentlemen and smart casual wear for ladies.

Private Dining
If you are looking for something a little more special, you may want to consider one of the uniquely crafted dining experiences, from a traditional 5-course Japanese menu in an open-air dining pavilion to a tantalising personalised menu at The Chef’s Table created by one of the Executive Chefs.

One of the most romantic experiences is dining on the beach. Take in the serenity of the enchanting island while you dine under the moonlight. Choose from two stunning locations – savour an exquisite set menu of Western cuisine with an Asian flair served by your personal butler at either the world-famous Emerald Bay or the tranquil Spa Village. There is also private dining within the privacy of your very own Spa Gazebo in the Spa Village where you can delight in a tantalizing Japanese set dinner. The captivating 2 million year old rain forest and the faint sounds of the lapping sea make the ultimate island dining experience. The last option is private dining in the Lantern Courtyard at Feast Village where an Executive Chef will aid in crafting an unforgettable gastronomic experience in the outdoor pavilions by the koi garden. Choose to personalise Thai, Indian, Japanese or Western Menus or simply ask him to surprise you with his top choices for the day.
