Those looking for a beautiful family Christmas experience should head to Ashridge House for The Nutcracker, a Magical Christmas Experience.

Located on the outskirts of Berkhamstead, Hertfordshire, just 30 miles from central London, this awe-inspiring Grade I listed heritage property, which was once the home of Henry VIII, is the most perfect setting for this festive event.

Photo opportunities start before you even drive up to the property, with winding paths and ancient woodland drawing you up to the drive to the jaw-droppingly beautiful stately home that is Ashridge House.

Entering the reception, you are met with a grand Christmas tree, almost groaning with gorgeous decorations. From there, you move into the magnificent main hall, with its cantilevered staircase, historic portraits and impressive statues, all of which set the tone for the experience ahead.

Exquisitely dressed actors take guests through four themed rooms with stories, songs and magical encounters that captivate all young kids. My boys, aged two and seven, were enthralled for the full 45 minutes, which is quite a feat.

The pièce de résistance, of course – meeting Father Christmas is saved to the end, as it should, and was met with whoops of delight from the children. Each child got exclusive time with the ‘big man’ who drew in even the most cynical kids in. It is worth saying that this is the most polished ‘proper’ Santa we have seen for as long as we can remember.

This event truly warmed the cockles of our hearts and was a total success for our family.

It’s the opposite of the dreaded queue to see Father’s Christmas ritual found in so many shopping malls and gardening centres around the country. This intimate experience is glorious, warm and inclusive.

Running until 24th December, Tickets cost £22.50 per person, which includes a day pass to Ashridge House, a meeting with Father Christmas and a gift for each child.

The Nutcracker, a Magical Christmas Experience at Ashridge House, is organized by event production company Sneaky Experiences, who are also coordinating events in Liverpool and Northwich, Cheshire.
