Indulging in delicious and healthy fare while having your hair cut is part of Walking on Sunshine’s charm. Ong Chin Huat checks out this garden-themed and award-winning hair salon in Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur.

Beauty might not always be synonymous with dining, and the two indulgences may not always go hand in hand, but at Walking on Sunshine, a café-cum-hair salon located in the prestigious area of Mont Kiara in Kuala Lumpur, they fit together like two puzzle pieces in a jigsaw.

Walking on Sunshine certainly lives up to its moniker as a one-stop beauty and dining lounge. The staff are incredibly welcoming and friendly and ready to help their customers navigate their way around the menu – both gastronomic and follicular ones and the other services offered in this urban oasis.

Decorated with homely touches and a plethora of green potted plants, Walking on Sunshine must be one of the most innovative places in the Malaysian capital to grab a bite to eat or have your roots touched up.

Visitors to the salon cum eatery are welcomed by cosy leather couches and a sawn-off bonnet of a vintage car laden with potted plants, which helps set the tone for your appointment, producing a great first impression.

Once inside, you’ll be ushered into the café in the section behind the reception, where any feelings of stress and hurriedness melt away the moment you are seated in the airy and cheerful dining area. Surrounding you are hanging plants suspended from the industrial-style ceiling.

It’s a place where you can indulge in wholesome food and drinks such as fresh green juices, herbal teas and coffees, including specialty lattes in what, to my eyes, looks like an urban oasis.

As for food, expect staples like Butter Garlic Prawn Pizza, Bulgogi Beef Cream Fettuccine or Chicken Cutlet Burgers. The Sunshine Breakfast consisting of kroffles (a fusion of croissant and waffles), premium chicken sausages, mini hash browns, scrambled eggs, baked beans with mixed mushrooms and salad will keep you sated till dinner time.

One of the must-try items on the menu is Luke’s Favourite (named after the owner). It is a nutrient-rich and tasty dish comprising a lightly pan-fried salmon fillet with poached eggs, barley, and quinoa, greens, red onion, red and green peppers drizzled with sesame dressing.

As for their salon, internationally trained hair stylists are on hand to provide top-notch advice and services, whatever your requirements are.

The stylists offer everything from a simple hair cut to perming and colouring or hair and scalp treatments. All of the services in this award-winning hair salon are carried out with the utmost professionalism and excellence in terms of service and products used.

If you want a bit more privacy when undergoing a hair treatment, the good news is the salon has a private room, and I must say that the Korean Cream Bath hair treatment is something not to be missed and deserving of a special mention. The cream bath treatment is both relaxing and soothing and will make anyone’s tresses shine with health and vitality with its hair-loving ingredients.

With a full stomach and beautifully cut and coloured hair, there’s one last thing to do before leaving Walking On Sunshine: visit Photopia, located in the back sectionof Walking on Sunshine, to take professionally snapped selfies or welfies.

This Korean style self-photo studio allows you to capture your crowning glory in both black and white and colour in spacious photo booths with a variety of different backgrounds all by yourself without any photographer!

With flattering studio lighting, everyone can now look Instagram-perfect, whether it’s just for fun, a social function or an engagement or a graduation portrait.
