Frederique Constant’s 1988 Flyback Chronograph is all About Vintage

Frederique Constant's 1988 Flyback Chronograph is all About Vintage

To mark the 32nd anniversary of Frederique Constant’s establishment, two watchmakers have collaborated creating a distinct and rare timepiece. Frederique Constant, the Swiss Maison, has joined with Danish watch brand About Vintage to produce the 1988 Flyback Chronograph.

Just thirty-two 1988 Flyback Chronographs will be made and will only be available online from the About Vintage website. This lovely looking watch brings together the attributes of both brands and countries—refined watch design from Denmark and the developments skills of Switzerland which delights every Horologist. However, be warned, you will be very fortunate to get one though due to the strictly limited number being made.

This timepiece is a homage to Frederique Constant’s famous Flyback Chronograph Manufacture and the 1988 Flyback Chronograph is a modern reworking of the original.

“About Vintage is an ode to the classics, a humble celebration of remarkable achievements in horology. As we redesigned the classic Flyback Chronograph, we were constantly reminded of why we began this whole journey of watchmaking. That is how we came up with the new design; the original timepiece with a touch of Scandinavian simplicity and vintage-inspired elements.”Thomas Andersen, the co-founder at About Vintage.

In 2018 About Vintage and Frederique Constant created the 1988 Moonphase, becoming the most exclusive watch in the About Vintage’s collection. That label has now been taken over by the 1988 Flyback Chronograph which is more exclusive in number, quality and price.

The two brands share similar visions, one being to manufacture luxury watches that the everyday person can afford—a concept which forms the foundation to their collaboration.

Daan van der Bruggen, Sales Director EU/CEE at Frederique Constant, said; “Being able to do collaborations like this makes us expand our own horizons. The Flyback Chronograph Manufacture is a highly complicated timepiece innovated by Frederique Constant and now redesigned in vintage and Scandinavian appearance.

With this limited edition, both Frederique Constant and About Vintage once again show innovative spirit as well as our collaborative approach within the watch industry. The many shared values between Frederique Constant and About Vintage made the 1988 Flyback Chronograph come to life. A humble reminder of the strength of widening one’s horizon.”

Frederique Constant’s in-house movement, the FC-760 Manufacture calibre is used in the 1988 Flyback Chronograph. The FC-760 replaces the standard column wheel with a star-shaped wheel eliminating complexity.

A thinner movement with fewer parts and actions is the result. Thus the Calibre is smoother, more reliable and simpler. The 1988 Flyback Chronograph has a decent-sized 42mm-sized polished, stainless steel case and a dial with date adjustable by the crown.
