Four Of The Best Spas In The Midlands To Recharge Your Batteries

A guide to four world-class spas located in the UK’s Midlands, which are perfect for some summer-time pampering, ranging from historic country house hotels to cutesy converted farmhouses.

If you want to treat yourself to some self-care this summer, I’ve got you covered with four amazing spas in the heart of England. After all, there’s nothing quite like bobbing about in a plunge pool, freshly pampered, with a flute of champagne in hand.

As I was born and raised in the Midlands, I know the area’s home to some of the country’s best spas. Better yet, they’re set in gorgeous rolling countryside, so you’re guaranteed idyllic views and buckets of fresh country air.

If you’re reading this from the north or south of England, don’t worry, these spas are easy to get to by train or car. For example, you can now get from London to Stafford in Staffordshire by train in just over an hour.

So without further ado, let’s take a look at some of the very best spas the Midlands has to offer.

Hoar Cross Hall Hotel and Spa in Staffordshire
A magnificent country house hotel nestled in the peaceful Staffordshire countryside – Hoar Cross Hall is nothing short of exceptional.

It’s set on 50 acres of grounds and gardens and is an idyllic setting for a springtime spa escape. Its award-winning spa is technically one of Europe’s biggest, with plenty of treatment and relaxation spaces to explore. It even has its own map to help you find your way around.

There’s a hydrotherapy pool with a jacuzzi, a saltwater vitality pool with a starlit cave and two whirlpools. Then there’s the ‘Nordic Suite’ with a range of relaxing places, like a sauna and a salt inhalation room.

They also have a modern gym if you want to get work out in and even a hair and beauty salon.

Grand but relaxing, guests are welcome to slouch around in their robes anywhere they like, including for lunch in the grand Ballroom restaurant and for coffee or cocktails in the amazing wood-panelled Long Gallery.

Fancy an overnight stay? The grand suites are bright and airy with all the luxuries you could want. Rooms come with Dyson hair dryers, high-tech coffee machines and VOYA Organic bathroom minis. The suites have amazing views of the perfectly pruned gardens and are individually designed with lots of thoughtful little touches.

Spa overnight stays include a three-course dinner and breakfast in the AA Rosette-awarded Ballroom restaurant. Here, an award-winning chef treats diners to classic dishes with a contemporary twist.

Spa days start from £50 per person. Find out more on the Hoar Cross Hall website.

The House Spa at Dormy House in Worcestershire
Dormy House is a stunning renovated farmhouse on the outskirts of Worcestershire. Its stylish, state-of-the-art House Spa has been winning awards since the day it opened.

Numbers are kept small so the spa area never gets busy; you just need to remember to book your time slot.

Spa-goers can enjoy a lavender sauna, salt-infused steam room and candle-lit infinity pool, all nested in the northwest corner of the Cotswolds.

There are cutting-edge spa treatments on offer and a fantastic on-site restaurant serving up local, rare-breed meats and veg grown in the hotel gardens, and also a number of stunning and tastefully decorated rooms and suites if you want to extend your stay. The most luxurious suites have separate lounge areas and private hot tubs. Pure bliss!

Spa days start from £105 per person. Find out more on the House Spa’s webpage.

Moddershall Oaks Country Spa Retreat in Staffordshire
Moddershall Oaks is a countryside retreat in Staffordshire that looks out onto picturesque rolling hills.

It was once a farmhouse, and today, following millions of pounds being spent on its renovation, it is now a renowned luxury retreat. The good news is the money spent impacted its original charm, which is reflected in the decor with the use of reclaimed wood, original beams and rustic finishes.

The heated outdoor vitality pool is a real highlight – you’ll often see photos of it being shared by guests on social media – as well as the relaxing sleep lounge for after-treatment naps.

Inside you’ll find a heated hydrotherapy pool surrounded by marble loungers and a modern sauna and steam room. There’s also a Wellness Centre offering a range of classes, from HIIT training to meditation and yoga.

For lunch and dinner, there’s a stunning lakeside restaurant on the water’s edge, serving local produce and refined dishes.

A handful of luxury suites with outdoor hot tubs sit adjacent to the spa, so you can stay overnight and enjoy an even more secluded experience in the countryside. Spa days start from £160 per person. Find out more on Moddershall Oaks’ website.

The Bamford Wellness Spa in the Cotswolds
I love Bamford skincare. The brand’s artisan products are packed with botanicals and smell beautiful whilst being gentle to your skin and our planet. So I had to include their Wellness Spa in this guide.

It’s a peaceful retreat at Daylesford Farm in the Cotswolds overlooking the countryside. Daylesford is one of the most sustainable and pioneering organic farms in the country, so it’s a natural home for a Bamford spa.

The spa's minimalist decor with a liberal use of natural stone and wood complemented with white furnishings

I’ve popped into this spa a couple of times on visits to Daylesford Farm, and it smells absolutely divine. The decor is stunning, too, minimalist and modern, just what you need for a day of relaxation. It blends in perfectly with the rural surroundings.

As well as a wellness pool and crystal sauna, there’s a bright studio with a wide range of restorative classes to book onto. Treatments are the main focus here, though. They draw on Eastern and Western practices and cover everything from custom facials to body treatments designed to restore your mental and emotional well-being.

Of course, they’re all centred around Bamford’s wonderful organic products. Spa days start from £75 per person. Find out more on the Bamford Wellness Spa website.
