Although business activity is restricted worldwide, this is not stopping fine watchmakers from unveiling their latest masterpieces. The latest of these is Emile Chouriet with it’s newest addition to its Lac Léman collection, the Lac Léman Date in 18k rose gold.
The Emile Chouriet Lac Léman collection focuses squarely on classic looks and design. Its inspiration comes from the history and beauty of Geneva and the Leman Lake, which surrounds the city. These two places have inspired both artists and watchmakers from the region for centuries.
The Lac Léman Date builds on the rich legacy of Geneva watchmaking rather than simply recreating the past. As we say here in England, “Why try to fix something when it isn’t broke?”
This new addition to collection comes in beautiful 18k rose gold and is timelessly elegant yet refreshingly modern. With its sculptured bezel and white face, I will admit that it does look rather similar to another, well-known high-end watch brands most famous offering that rhymes with the word ‘palaver’. Where the Lac Léman Date holds a distinct upper hand over its better-known peer is its comparatively low price.
The 18k rose gold case on the Lac Léman Date measures a decent 40mm wide and is well-proportioned. Emile Chouriet’s signature flared wing-shaped lugs help to accentuate the looks of the timepiece.
The Lac Léman Date also has a textured bezel which emphasises the character of the watch along with a fluted coin-edge pattern that plays with light in enchanting ways.
Time is not simply measured, but harmoniously captured in motion in the Lac Léman Date. Above the white dial, slender and curvy willow shaped hands circle to display the hours, minutes and seconds. Applied flat, polished golden baton markers mark each hour, recalling the tone of the solid rose gold case. A rectangular golden window, harmoniously balancing the applied Roman numeral hour marker at 12 o’clock, frames the white date window.
The final touch of elegance on this modern classic is the strap, fashioned in black veal leather and fixed to a comfortable and ergonomic 18K rose gold pin buckle.
The Lac Léman Date is powered by the self-winding EC9312 calibre, based on the “Top Grade” version of the ETA 2892 and providing a power reserve of 42 hours. Visible through the sapphire crystal display back, one can admire the custom Emile Chouriet oscillating rotor.
The Lac Léman Date reaffirms Emile Chouriet’s Geneva roots and audacity to give traditional Swiss watchmaking a more contemporary context, perfect for the modern gentleman with an eye for detail.
