Starry-Eyed over Emile Chouriet’s Lac Léman Classic Moonphase

Starry-Eyed over Emile Chouriet's Lac Léman Classic Moonphase

The stars and the Moon have always held a fascination to humans and in some cultures celebrated. Emile Chouriet, the Swiss luxury Watchmaker, has drawn on this in creating the beautiful and elegant Lac Léman Classic Moonphase.

The “Classic Moonphase” is the newest model in the Lac Léman collection. Taking its name from the lake that straddles Switzerland and France, it celebrates Emile Chouriet. He journeyed from France to set up his company in Switzerland.

The historical links between watchmaking and astronomy are inextricable. Watchmakers of the region had ingeniously created chronometric instruments used to chart the night sky. Emile Chouriet continues these traditions and skills with a steel-cased, 40mm diameter watch featuring the famous stepped wing-shaped lugs the company’s signature look.

The Moonphase has a versatile look and feel which adapts to every occasion. The case has an elaborate stainless steel integrated bracelet, with the links taking on different sizes. It is finished in a mix of polished and satin-brushed surfaces to highlight its stylish and ergonomic shape.

The dial of the Emile Chouriet Lac Léman Classic Moonphase

The white lacquered dial recalls those of pocket-watches from past centuries. Tapered black Roman numerals mark the hours, while the blue leaf-shaped hands provide a touch of colour and effortless legibility.

The window at 3 o’clock indicates the date, while the moon phase display offers balance to the entire dial at 6 o’clock. Its blue disk is adorned with polished golden stars and a golden moon, marking its passage in cycles of 29.5 days.

The Lac Léman Classic Moonphase is powered by the automatic SW280 movement, providing a reserve of 38 hours when fully wound—bringing what can be considered the most visually romantic of watch complications to a classically inspired timepiece for the modern era.

The Classic Moonphase will keep its owners looking at it, rather than the night sky.
