The world of Deep Sea diving gets a new welcome addition in the form of the new Ocean Star Diver 600 timepiece by Mido. Ong Chin Huat gets a closer look at this useful diving accessory at its official launch in Kuala Lumpur.
The Swiss Watchmaker held its “Most Superlative Timepieces” launch event at the Pool Side on the 53rd Floor of the Banyan Tree Hotel in Kuala Lumpur recently. The event focused around two versions of their Ocean Star Diver 600, available with a stainless steel bracelet and a black rubber strap. Both of these diving watches are a combination of advanced technological know-how and modern design.
The fun-filled event started with drinks around the pool with the Petronas Twin Towers looming large over all the guests and providing a stunning backdrop. An Architectural Colouring Competition saw some diligent guests colouring away while artist and illustrator Shannon Choo was on hand to sketch portraits of the guests.
Five lucky winners walked away with a limited edition Mido Robi Bluetooth Speaker which allows listeners to receive any radio station around the world.
Tipanat Lenbury, the Country Manager of the Swatch Group Malaysia; Heng Wei Hun, the Brand Manager of Mido Malaysia and JC Chee, Mido Friend of the Brand were all present to welcome the guests. Actor JC Chee told Luxurious Magazine that as a sporty person who engages in all different types of sports, the Mido Ocean Star Diver fits into his lifestyle perfectly. “It’s a great watch with the helium valve and the glow-in-dark Super-LumiNova Grade X numerals,” says Chee who shot to fame in the hit Malaysian movie Ola Bola and has just finished filming a romantic drama called “My Surprise Girl” in Taiwan and which will be released in February 2019. “I just love the stainless steel version as it’s so versatile as I can wear it while diving as well as to a movie premiere!”.
Water resistant to a pressure of 60 bar (600m/1,968 feet) and incorporating a helium valve with a 43.5 diameter polished and satin-finished steel case treated with black DLC, a unique cutting-edge procedure that gives it its special colour. Sitting on top of a black ceramic ring, the bezel incorporates engraved numerals filled with SuperLumiNova Grade X which allows the deep sea diver to read the diving time with extreme accuracy whatever the visibility conditions.
At the centre of this exceptional diving watch is the Calibre 80 Si, a COSC-certified chronometer movement with silicon balance-spring and which has an autonomy of up to 80 hours of power reserve with exceptional accuracy and an ability to withstand impacts.
