Stepping Inside the Luxurious 192-room Capella Sydney Hotel

Stepping Inside the Luxurious 192-room Capella Sydney Hotel

Set just moments from Sydney’s Circular Quay and just a short stroll from the city’s iconic Opera House, Harbour Bridge and Botanical Gardens, Capella Sydney, the city’s newest luxury hotel, tops the list for premium location but also offers stunning design and impeccable service.

The personalised service that guests receive is something that really sets the hotel apart. Members of the hotel’s Culturalist Team personally contact each guest to gather their personal interests, from which they curate a bespoke suggested itinerary consisting of options from the extensive resort program.

Experiences range from celebrating local arts, heritage, wellness and gastronomy, bought about by hugely knowledgeable experts. Activities include guided morning runs, architecture and history walks, storytelling experiences about Aboriginal heritage, tastings and art workshops.

The exterior of the historic building housing the hotel

The nine-story, 192-room hotel occupies a historic listed building and was the result of an extensive renovation programme. The stunning light sandstone building really stands out amongst the high-rises that surround it, and the beauty continues inside, where elements of the grand architectural heritage are evident throughout the property.

The public areas are light and spacious, filled with beautiful curated artwork; the ground-floor collection includes works by Australian artists Judy Watson, Otis Hope Carey, Elise Cakebread, and Georgia Bisley.

Taking centre stage in the lobby is a huge robotic lighting installation by Dutch Studio DRIFT. The piece comes into its own as the light fades, and the robotic structures, which symbolise local wildflowers, light up as they open and close.

Guestrooms are welcomely quiet, comfortable and spacious, with incredibly cosy beds carrying Italian Frette linen, state-of-the-art entertainment systems and electronics, plus a collection of high-end vegan, sustainable in-room amenities from UK brand Haeckels. The huge bathroom consists of a walk-in rain shower room, a separate toilet and a wonderfully deep bath.

At Capella Sydney’s Auriga Spa, which is open to hotel guests only, you can enjoy a number of treatments that are tailor-made to reflect the changing cycles of the new and full moon and use skincare products made by Australian company Synthesis Organics.

The hotels indoor swimming pool

Within a striking white marble columned room, you will find the delightfully inviting swimming and vitality pools next door to a well-equipped gym and yoga platform. Sauna and steam room, an experience shower and ice bath are all available in the lavish changing rooms.

The F&B offerings at the Capella Sydney, unsurprisingly, are also on point. Celebrating the best in Australian produce, Brasserie 1930 could overshadow many of the top city restaurants, offering meticulously crafted tasting menus to inventive à la carte options.

Every dish is a wonderful collation of locally sourced ingredients prepared with precision and flair. McRae Bar, with its dark walls and theatrical décor, offers an elegant cocktail experience.

With the luxury hotel option in large cities, often a conveyor belt of similar offerings, Capella Sydney is a well-welcomed breath of fresh air.
