A new Royal baby has been born, which is the perfect excuse to wet the baby’s head. To help us all, those forward-thinking people at Greyfriars Vineyard have joined in with the celebrations by launching a new tipple called the Cuvée Royale English Sparkling Wine.
The weeks are counting down to the next Royal Wedding, and for some, the excitement and anticipation are hotting up. Royal watchers are trying to predict what Meghan Markle’s dress will be like, who will make Maid of Honour and whether Harry will keep his beard.
For those of us watching the nuptials at home, we’ll need something to toast the occasion, but what will be our drink of choice?
Fortunately, Greyfriars Vineyard might have the ideal solution in the form of their extra special Cuvée Royale English sparkling wine. Seems like an ideal choice to celebrate the nuptials in Windsor on 19th May.
The 2015 Cuvée Royale is a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from Greyfriars’ Surrey vineyards and has been aged in old oak barriques. And, to make it that much more desirable, it is a limited edition. Only 2,400 individually numbered bottles have been made.
Greyfriars Vineyard owner and Winemaker Mike Wagstaff explains why they decided to produce the new cuvée: “In addition to our non-vintage and vintage ranges of sparkling wine, three years ago, we decided to create some small parcels of extra special wines that reflect the very best of each particular vintage.
These are either single vineyard wines or blends which best reflect the unique character of the vintage. The first of these is the Cuvée Royale from 2015, which is a blend of the best Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from our Monkshatch vineyard.”
Mike explains the wine wasn’t originally created to celebrate the Royal Wedding. “The working name for the wine was always Cuvée Royale, as we sensed it was going to be something special. Now we have come to release this wine is particularly appropriate in light of the forthcoming Royal Wedding.”
