Simon Wittenberg reports on the second Heesen 55-metre superyacht to be sold by the Monaco-based Arcon Yachts brokerage company.
Heesen Yachts’ Project Serena is heading to its new owner in the autumn of 2024 after the stunning 55-metre (180-foot) superyacht was sold via Arcon Yachts Monaco to an experienced yachtsman. For an idea of what the client has paid for the vessel, Project Serena is currently listed for sale online by the International Yacht Company (IYC) for just shy of €50 million.
Project Serena, from the Dutch shipyard’s 55-metre steel series and codenamed YN 20555, was first revealed to the world back in March 2022 at the Dubai International Boat Show, so it’s taken around six months to broker a deal, but the pen has now been put to paper.
A sister ship to Heesen Yachts’ Project Apollo, which was sold last year, the flowing and muscular exterior of the 760-gross tonne (GT) superyacht has been beautifully styled by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects, and sports features, such as floor-to-ceiling glass, and horizontal lines that stretch the optical length and balance the air draft.
Small enough to access the more intimate and exclusive Mediterranean ports, such as Portofino in Italy or St. Tropez in the south of France, Omega’s design includes a French balcony in the owners’ apartment on the main deck forward, a truly unique feature that fundamentally changes the space.
Other enhancements include less formal layouts for the outdoor areas centred around alfresco dining, additional stairways for more fluid circulation, and an extended sun deck layout for greater floor space. On the inside, Luca Dini Design will work on further personalising the interior design to incorporate the owner’s lifestyle and taste.
Under the waterline, Project Serena has an ultra-efficient fast displacement hull engineered by van Oossanen and Heesen’s in-house specialists, resulting in lower fuel consumption and greater comfort in rough waters.
The 55-metre superyacht is powered by two MTU 8V4000 M63 IMO III units of 1000 kW, delivering a maximum speed of 15.5 knots and a transatlantic range of 4,500 nautical miles at 13 knots.
