Malcolm McKeon Yacht Design's Sarissa Wins at Boat International Awards

Malcolm McKeon Yacht Design’s 59.7m Sarissa was awarded five Neptune trophies at last night’s Boat International Design & Innovation Awards. Sarissa received the awards for Best Naval Architecture and Best Exterior Design, the Eco Award, Innovation of the Year, and Best Interior Design.

Sarissa is the first yacht to have received such extensive recognition at these prestigious awards. The MMYD studio is extremely proud to have been acknowledged in this way amongst celebrated peers and industry friends.

Sarissa was designed to be fast, easy to handle and confidently capable for all intended purposes. She has accommodation for 12 guests and 10 crew, and remains beneath the 500GT threshold.

Sarissa’s performance attributes include a generous sail plan featuring a square top mainsail, a lifting keel, and a high righting moment configuration, all combining to produce a lively performance from this highly tuned cruising yacht.

The aerodynamic performance of the yacht’s 76m rig was refined through extensive studies in collaboration with North Sails and Southern Spars, with an eye on high-performance cruising and possible future regatta racing.

“Sarissa embodies all that we try to achieve with regard to aesthetic engineering and progressive yacht design. She is a high-performance sailing superyacht of the most incredible stature.

The design of Sarissa presented an opportunity to work with experienced, knowledgeable owners who brought incredible passion to the project. Their brave design choices have resulted in a beautiful yacht that is at the pinnacle of performance and luxury.” – Malcolm McKeon, Director, Malcolm McKeon Yacht Design.

Sarissa’s exterior design was recognised for its extensive development, detail, and sleek integrated design. With Sarissa, MMYD has balanced the latest engineering solutions with beautiful, dynamic lines and safe, efficient sail handling.

The yacht’s dramatic profile embodies the Client’s brief in every way, from the low, sleek superstructure and the large square-top mainsail to the open-plan cockpit and striking panels of glass. Sailing fast, cruising in comfort, turning heads, owning the racecourse and confident passage-making across the Pacific – Sarissa can do it all.

Sarissa is the epitome of the MMYD ethos: Aesthetically engineered yacht design. She is the pinnacle of over 40 years of design experience, and the studio claims her as its flagship with enormous pride.

With thanks to the owner, owner’s representative Gregory Monks, interior design by Liaigre, and the Royal Huisman Shipyard.
