The oldest of the great cognac houses, Martell celebrates landmark 300th anniversary with the release of Cordon Bleu – A Tribute to Martell’s 300 year anniversary
The House of Martell has today announced the launch of a limited edition bottle and blend, Cordon Bleu “A Tribute to Martell’s 300’s year anniversary”.
In celebration of the House’s Tricentenary, Cellar Master Benoît Fil has crafted a unique version of the legendary cognac Martell Cordon Bleu, originally created by Edouard Martell – the tenth descendant of the House’s founder – in 1912. The blend is rested in barrels crafted from a 300-year old oak tree.
Cordon Bleu “A Tribute to Martell’s 300 year anniversary” combines more than one hundred eaux-de-vie from the four most prestigious vineyards in Cognac: Petite Champagne, Grand Champagne, Fins Bois and Borderies. The delicate and fruity hallmark of the Borderies has become the signature of Martell, characteristic of its style, which can be summed up in three words: elegance, complexity and balance.
The gold-tinted copper coloured cognac has a sharp bouquet, and on tasting an explosion of flavours – orchard fruits, (plum and apple), roasted notes, (coffee, mocha, roasted almonds, vetiver), candied orange, cinnamon, honey and beeswax hits the palate. The rare round and mellow palate is enhanced by the eaux-de-vie from the Borderies terroir.
As part of their Tricentenary celebrations Martell wanted to pay tribute to their origins and this limited edition is the perfect expression, the 300 year-old oak barrels linking the past with the present; the beautiful, original packaging paying homage to Edouard Martell’s legendary creation.
