The Peninsula Hong Kong's Afternoon Tea on the Harbour Aboard World Star

As summer shifts to autumn and the skies turn crystal clear, the glittering island metropolis of Hong Kong becomes even more beautiful. It is the season when some of the most spectacular city views in the world can be enjoyed, particularly from offshore. The Peninsula Hong Kong is inviting local residents and international tourists to enjoy them in high Peninsula style.

This past spring, the hotel’s exclusive collaboration with the Star Ferry Company allowed guests to enjoy signature Afternoon Tea on the Harbour for the first time. Due to the offering’s popularity, The Peninsula Hong Kong is bringing back its on-the-water dining journeys – now expanded to encompass three different experiences – aboard the World Star between 2 September and 17 December 2023.

These special excursions reflect more than just the legendary hotel’s commitment to providing exceptional offerings to its visitors. It also celebrates the unique partnership between two of Hong Kong’s most iconic and venerable institutions: The Peninsula Hong Kong, which marks its 95th anniversary this year, and the 125-year-old Star Ferry.

A Trio of Enchanting Voyages
From September through mid-December, Peninsula guests can step aboard the beautifully renovated World Star and embark on a magnificent 105-minute Afternoon Tea cruise around Victoria Harbour every Saturday and Sunday (blackout dates apply).

This time, three differently themed bountiful Afternoon Tea experiences will be offered in sequence following the latest happenings surrounding The Peninsula Hong Kong – all will include delicious cuisine, delightful live music, and renowned Peninsula service in two sessions from 1:00 pm to 2:45 pm, or 4:00 pm to 5:45 pm.

On 2, 3, 9 and 10 September, a Summer Afternoon Tea will be served, where guests can enjoy a captivating culinary journey with picturesque scenery alongside the Victoria Harbour.

Beginning on 16 September, in celebration of the opening of the latest addition to The Peninsula Hotels portfolio – The Peninsula London – guests can enjoy an “All Things British” Afternoon Tea, offering traditional and indulgent fare that pays homage to the of the afternoon tea ritual’s country of origin.

The custom of taking tea, along with distinctive dishes like savoury sandwiches, hot teacakes, and scones, is widely known to have been started by the Duchess of Bedford just before the Victorian era.

In anticipation of the Christmas holiday, from 25 November through 17 December, The Peninsula’s festive “Teas of Hope” menu will be served aboard World Star, highlighting a bounty of seasonally themed sweet and savoury delicacies. For each afternoon tea sold, US$5 will be donated to Make-A-Wish Hong Kong, also a Peninsula tradition in the spirit of giving at this time of year.

All three themed Afternoon Teas will also offer special new beverage packages, including premium wines and Champagne. Caviar will also be available at an additional cost.

The Peninsula Afternoon Tea ritual is never complete without some live music, and to enhance the upbeat mood, the on-board entertainment will feature a new contemporary playlist for guests’ listening pleasure.
