The Langham, Gold Coast Will Create Extra Wow Down Under in 2022

Simon Wittenberg takes an in-depth look at The Langham, Gold Coast, the third Langham luxury property to open its doors Down Under.

Following on from the unveiling of The Langham, Jakarta in September 2021 – The Langham brand’s first property in Asia, the group, which is famed for its five-star London hotel, is continuing its expansion in Australia during 2022.

The hospitality firm has now turned its focus to the Gold Coast, the sunshine-blessed destination in Queensland.

Gracing the shore of Surfers Paradise, which looks out onto the Pacific Ocean, and housed within the uber-modern Jewel development, The Langham, Gold Coast is a 169-room hotel complemented by 170 serviced apartments that go by the name of the Jewel Residences.

Guests will be able to benefit from the surrounding vistas of land and sea thanks to The Langham, Gold Coast occupying the first 20 floors in the tallest of the three towers, with levels 22 to 49 reserved for those staying in the Residences.

The striking and angular glass architecture of the Jewel development, which is the work of the AW Holding Group and the U.S.-based Oppenheim Architecture + Design business, is reminiscent of the shape of three colossal quartz crystals inspired by the gemstone shards discovered in the region dating back thousands of years.

Sydney-based Studio Aria has been responsible for shaping the interior of the hotel, which counts 32 suites offering 180-degree uninterrupted views of the waves. The property’s colour palette boasts a “coast meets city” theme and uses a combination of teal, azure and tan shades derived from the local flora and fauna. The salt and sun-bleached timbers and metal and glass materials give a natural yet contemporary finish, merging seamlessly with modern architecture.

No hotel is complete, of course, without its gastronomic experiences. The Langham, Gold Coast is home to several eateries, including 26 & Sunny – a casual “grab and go” café, Akoya for all-day dining, as well as a pool bar and a podium sky terrace, with the Coral Moon bar overlooking the adjacent waters.

Spearheading the on-site choice for diners is T’ang Court, the signature Cantonese restaurant, which will extend the prestigious reputation of its Michelin starred counterparts at The Langham hotels in Hong Kong and Shanghai.

The restaurant will comprise two private dining rooms, ideal for exclusive events, while the main area will be able to accommodate up to 90 guests.

Those looking for rest and relaxation will be able to recline at The Langham, Gold Coast’s 500 square-metre Chuan Spa, housing seven private treatment rooms, a health and beauty centre, a fully-equipped fitness centre, in addition to an indoor free-form and outdoor swimming pool.

John O’Shea, General Manager of The Langham, Gold Coast, explained that when the hotel opens later this year, they will look forward to taking modern coastal luxury to new heights.
