Sleep Suspended in an Igloo on an Icelandic Lagoon this Winter

Sleep Suspended in a Glass Igloo on an Icelandic Lagoon this Winter

If you’re looking for an extraordinary winter experience, little will touch Off the Map Travel’s latest adventure, which allows you to stay in an igloo, which will be frozen into a secluded Icelandic lagoon.

When it comes to travel destinations, there is little that surprises us. However, Off the Map Travel’s new Icelandic adventure did. It’s not the fact that it takes place in Iceland; it’s where guests will be staying. Imagine for one moment the thrill of staying in an igloo away from the crowds on a frozen Icelandic lagoon. And if the conditions are right, you’ll be able to look up and witness the majesty of the Aurora Borealis; enticing, eh?

There are only two igloos to choose from – both providing a cosy hideaway from which to stargaze and catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights. Reaching the igloos involves the use of an all-terrain vehicle (we told you it was far from the crowds). Once you reach your destination, you’ll be able to enjoy the incredible Icelandic landscape from the north-facing panoramic glass walls.

The aptly named Glacier Lagoon Adventure trip is available to book from mid-January to the end of March.

Alex Minnis, Chief Operations Officer of Off the Map Travel, said, “This is such an incredible way to experience the Northern Lights as well as the stunning Icelandic wilderness, whilst sleeping in a glass-fronted igloo, suspended in frozen water from the nearby Vatnajokull glacier.

“As the accommodation is new, this is the first winter that guests can stay and experience the lagoon up close overnight. The igloos are ideal for couples looking for a romantic hideaway and an opportunity to experience Iceland in a truly one-of-a-kind way.”

Each igloo is heated and includes a large comfortable double bed, bathroom, panoramic windows, Wi-Fi and hot drinks.

“It’s a great way to have an adventure without compromising on comfort,” adds Minnis.

“It’s isolated and quiet, and the dark skies make it one of the best places in the world to experience the Northern Lights. The panoramic windows showcase the vast arctic sky, full of stars. It’s stunning.”

The new five-night Glacier Lagoon Adventure itinerary includes an initial night in Iceland’s capital, Reykjavik, followed by a self-drive road trip to Myrdalsjokull, taking in the Southern coastline en route.

On arrival, guests will be taken on a privately guided tour of local hot spots before enjoying dinner at the Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon and spending a night beneath the Aurora Borealis in one of the lagoon’s glass igloos.

Throughout the day, guests can capture some amazing photos of the glacier or take a trip to nearby Diamond Beach, which has deep black sand dotted with glittering ice shards.

The trip concludes with a road trip along the coast to Hotel Ranga for a final night’s stay.

The five-night, six-day Glacier Lagoon Adventure trip costs from £2499 per person based on two people travelling on a half-board basis. This includes all accommodation, 4×4 hire car, private guided activities and dinners as listed. Flights are not included.
