Pampering and fun at The Club at Saujana Resort

The Spa and Med Beauty at The Club at Saujana Resort

Another of the ‘must try’ treats is a session at the Spa and Med Beauty. The Spa is located in its own sanctuary next to The Club at Saujana Resort within a tropical rain-forest setting scattered The Spa and Med Beauty at The Club at Saujana Resortaround a large reflection pool. We had two treatments booked, my wife was due to try the Ancient Balinese Massage and I was booked in for a Med Beauty Swiss Facial Treatment.

The Med Beauty Swiss system was developed by Swiss dermatologist Dr. Harald Gerny using plant stem cells to protect and stimulate skin renewal.  The skin and beauty treatments developed by Med Beauty Swiss have been designed to offer ‘beauty without surgery’ and tangible rejuvenation of the skin. Something that any man like me in his early forties should be doing to fight the onset of those fine lines. The interior was as expected in any high-end Spa, clinically clean, relaxing and comfortable. After filling in the usual health check list I was taken to the private treatment room.

This is where I unfortunately commit a cardinal sin and reveal that I cannot remember much about it! I recall the soothing cleansing of my face and the tranquil sounds, the tingling of the microdermabrasion, back and shoulder massage and then I fell asleep, which I will say is a credit to the spa and treatment for making me feel so relaxed. Although I am at a loss to talk to you through exactly what was done, I can tell tell you about the most important part – the end result. The treatment resulted in a smooth glowing face, tauter skin and if possible I looked far better leaving than when I arrived. My wife also had an equally difficult time describing her massage to me, the best I got out of her was wonderful, relaxed, sleepy. In simple terms the treatments do what they say they do, the Spa along with the food and accommodation all add to the feeling that you really are at the ‘Ultimate Urban Retreat’

Playing the Saujana Golf and Country Club Course

Another thing I had very much been looking forward to was a round at the Saujana Golf and Country Club. Our round was to be on the Bunga Raya course, a Bermuda Grass course designed by Golf Architect Ronald Fream and extending to just over 7000 yards. The course is very highly regarded having collected awards such as ‘Best Course in Malaysia’, ‘Best Championship Course in Asia’ and has been acknowledged at one of the 100 best Golf Resorts in the World.

Hotel Manager Pat Phanekham on the Bunga Raya course at Saujana

Not having a playing partner, I was joined by Mr Pat Phanekham, the Hotel Manager who was happy to play, drive the electric buggy and teach me about the course and etiquette alongside our knowledgeable caddie. One thing that I neglected to mention to my playing partner was that I don’t really play much golf, this became apparent when I pulled my first club out of my pristine bag with the plastic wrapping still on it!

Before all the die-hard golfers reading this take a sharp intake of breath, I will add that I have played before, but never on a course in Malaysia and I always play safe on the first hole by driving with ‘The Perfect Club’ – guaranteed to make you play like a Pro or your money back! As I stood there on the first tee, I couldn’t stop myself from looking at how beautiful the design and layout of the course was, undulations, beautiful foliage, water features and white sand filled bunkers, just what I imagined a top class Asian golf course to be like.

The round was great fun and I enthusiastically battled away against my lack of ability, occasionally producing a moment of true brilliance inter-dispersed with many embarrassingly bad shots. Mr Pat plugged away with a consistent fairway, green, hole whilst refusing my accolades and ignoring my excuses. It was a memorable round if not slightly frustrating, if you are thinking of a trip to Kuala Lumpur for business or pleasure and you want to play golf then this is an absolute must, but make sure you give The Club at Saujana Resort ample notice of your intention to play or you won’t get a tee off time.

Other activities at The Club at Saujana Resort

Guests at ‘The Club’ are spoilt when it comes to swimming pools, the private club pool is a large rectangular pool with loungers around the outside and much to my delight was not being used on the two occasions I went for a swim. My wife used the pool more than I and regularly went poolside for an undisturbed afternoon nap. The pool extends to just under forty meters in length, long enough to help with offsetting the wonderful food you are bound to eat. I took pleasure out of just floating on my back, looking up at the sky and listening to the sound of birds singing. Guests of ‘The Club’ also have use of the Saujana Hotel Pool, a large swimming pool better suited for families with slides, small channels to swim in, bridges and a children’s play area. There also a well equipped Gymnasium, somewhere that I almost used on numerous occasions.
