Leanne Kelsall visits The Chapel, the multi-awarding London hairdressers that’s more boutique spa than hair salon.

When I think of hair salons, I think chaotic, harshly-lit environments where I’ve whittled away countless hours flicking through sorry-looking editions of Vogue, praying that my hair colour isn’t a disaster.

It’s a bit of an ordeal and it’s not the sort of thing I do to relax. Until now.

When I heard about The Chapel – the salon that promises a spa-like experience that’s completely bespoke (pricing and all) to each client – I jumped at the chance to review it.

It’s a fresh concept that’s earned the salon countless awards, including winner of “Best London Salon” two years running.

With so many hair salons in London, what makes The Chapel unique? Well, you’ll enjoy the calming ambience you’d get at a spa with all the attentiveness of a boutique hotel.

The brands’ uniqueness transcends into the premises they use, too. There are four salons; Tunbridge Wells, Islington London, Seven Oaks and Verbier in the Swiss Alps. Islington, the flagship and salon I visited, is a former church. Each salon is interior designed to suit the local area, whether it’s edgy East London or the idyllic Kent countryside.

It’s all about you from the minute you make your booking. You’ll feel like a VIP.

To begin, you’ll meet your stylist for an in-depth consultation where you’ll get to know each in the salon’s beautiful lounge.

At this point, you’ll notice the difference, thanks to the R.E.S.T ethos (Relaxation, Education, Service, and Tailored treatments) created by founder Amanda. Of course, any salon or brand can create a fancy acronym but trust me, this one delivers. According to Amanda, it’s about creating an inviting ambience, removing fear and replacing it with trust – leading to a fantastic result.

During my consultation with stylist Daniel, we chatted about my dream hair colour and how we could achieve something similar with my hair. During our conversation, Daniel was very honest about what we could aim for colour-wise with hair’s current condition and past colour history. We also chatted about an aftercare routine. I learnt a lot during my consultation. Daniel made me feel very comfortable and I left with confidence, instead of that new-hairdresser anxiety.
