La Divina Maria Callas - The Exhibition

Maria Callas. The Exhibition retraces the story, life, art and legend of the artistic genius of La Divina, from her education in Greece to her Paris exile, exploring the triumphs, scandals and private life of an artist who became a genuine icon of the 20th century

Housed in the rooms of Palazzo Forti, the location of the AMO Arena Museo Opera, and curated by Massimiliano Capella, the exhibition marks the 40th anniversary of Maria Callas’ death (16 September 1977) and the 70th anniversary of her international début with Amilcare Ponchielli’s La Gioconda at the Arena of Verona (2 August 1947).

La Divina Maria Callas - The Exhibition

Through a chronological and thematic sequence, the exhibition itinerary traces a Callas Route across stage objects, costumes and jewellery, private dresses, videos, documents, letters and photographs from the archives of Italian, French, British and American theatres, as well as international private collections. The exhibition, which includes items loaned for the first time ever, focuses in particular on the cities in which Maria Callas performed and, in certain cases, lived – from Verona to Paris.

La Divina Maria Callas - The Exhibition 14Held under the patronage of the Comune di Verona and promoted by the Fondazione Arena di Verona, the exhibition has been produced and organised by Arthemisia Group with the fundamental contribution of AGSM Group, main sponsor of the initiative.

Also on display at AMO Arena Museo Opera 57, are some of the most famous works by
legendary British photographer Terry O’Neill, who from the early ‘60s has dedicated his
career to capturing the most famous personalities of his time with his camera transforming them into Icons.

The exhibition, curated by Cristina Carrillo de Albornoz, is a selection of his most
renowned shots of actors, singers, politicians and athletes such as Sean Connery, the Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Elton John and Faye Dunaway and his future wife the morning after her Oscar win for Network.

Spontaneous private moments often captured because of his personal relationship with his subjects make these images iconic and intimate at the same time. The exhibition, with the Patronage of the Comune di Verona, is promoted by Fondazione Arena di Verona and produced and organised by Arthemisia Group, in collaboration with Iconic Images.
