A ‘Restaurant With Rooms’ That Is Hipping Hall

Hipping Hall defines itself as a luxury ‘restaurant with rooms’ and the well informed come from all around. And with a 3 AA Rosette award for dining, it’s no wonder why.  Sitting between the beautiful English Lake District and the rugged Yorkshire Dales, Hipping Hall is a lovingly restored 15th century hamlet. The cluster of ivy-clad stone buildings set in three acres of greenery is the perfect venue to dine in and rest before exploring the very best of what the North-West of England has to offer.

The man behind the stoves is 26-year-old New Zealander, Brent Hulena. His passion is to produce dishes with strong rustic flavours and give them a finesse and style that you would associate with only the very best fine-dining restaurant experiences. The menu is certainly as extravagant as the surroundings and much of the fresh produce comes from a nearby farm.

Brent and his team want as many people as possible to come and try his food. That’s why they’ve put a ‘wine and dine’ package together. For just £99, couples can select dishes from their regular dinner menu which offers four mouth-watering choices for each course. They’ll also receive a few little extras along the way. And they know that a meal is not complete without something to lubricate the palate, so they’ve included a bottle of house wine as part of the deal.

Guests can open the meal with Turbot terrine, cucumber smoke, for a starter, enjoy Halibut, artichoke, wild mushrooms, leek as the main, and finish off with a Honeycomb, whisky, raisin for dessert. These are just some of the culinary delights that can be savoured under the high vaulted roof of the banqueting hall.

The setting truly is rather romantic, especially if you eat in front of the fire or on the balcony which sits directly under the oak beams made from old ships. Fine dining is not limited to meat eaters either – a vegetarian a la carte and tasting menu is available on request. The setting truly is rather romantic, especially if you eat in front of the fire or on the balcony which sits directly under the oak beams made from old ships. The style of the building is very much of a country house. The reception room, bar and lounge with its flock wallpaper, gilt mirrors and oil paintings is a true rural retreat. Sofas in clashing colours and patterns and leather armchairs, all bathed with soft lighting, offer a real sense of home comfort where guests can’t help but sit with their feet up.

But the bedrooms are in stark contrast to the rest of the dwelling. The nine rooms, as unique as they are, are neutral in colour, airy and tranquil. The elegant bathrooms have all been designed in a different natural stone, with deep double-ended baths. Room six is the largest bedroom in the hotel and comes with a huge canopied bed, and a separate snug area with sofa and flat-screen TV. The entire room is as spacious as the ground floor of a terraced house. It’s the perfect space for couples wanting to spend some quality time together in a home-to-home setting without any distractions. The 6ft bed is certainly fit for a king and queen with an extra soft but firm mattress and fluffy pillows.

For a relaxing and luxurious getaway in beautiful surroundings, Hipping Hall really does tick all of the right boxes.
