Al Sud at Palmares Ocean Living & Golf Wins First Michelin Star

The Algarve’s Palmares Ocean Living & Golf resort is celebrating its fine dining restaurant Al Sud being awarded its first Michelin star just seven months after opening.

Under the leadership of chef Louis Anjos (above), Al Sud has been rapidly making an excellent name for itself thanks to its exquisite flavours, which celebrate the very best of the Algarve. Chef Anjos and his team have striven from the outset to provide an unforgettable gastronomic experience, as recognised by the award.

Al Sud showcases the tastes of the ocean, as befits the restaurant’s location, with its panoramic views of the Bay of Lagos and the Alvor Estuary. It offers dishes such as seafood rice with sea bass, bluefin tuna with local Alvor oysters and Algarve scarlet shrimp with pork belly, all of which celebrate local flavours that date back centuries while giving them an exciting contemporary twist.

The excellent service, coupled with the high quality of the food has quickly earned Al Sud a reputation with the Algarve’s international visitors, as has the series of tasting menus, which take visitors on a journey of gastronomic exploration.

Palmares Ocean Living and Golf have consistently impressed visitors with the unrivalled quality of its homes and amenities, following major investment by Kronos Homes.

Al Sud is one of two restaurants housed in the clubhouse designed by Pritzker Prize winners RCR Arquitectes. The renowned firm has also designed a selection of stunning villas at Palmares, priced from €3.4 million.

A new phase of Signature Apartments has also launched at the resort, with prices starting at €425,000. All of the homes are built using low-density construction to make the most of the gently sloping, verdant setting and its spectacular ocean views.

In addition to its incredible dining facilities, Palmares is also home to a 27-hole golf course designed by legendary American architect Robert Trent Jones Jr., Perfect for working up an appetite for dinner. And for those looking to indulge in pre-or post-dinner drinks, there’s the Experience Bar, where award-winning mixologist Jaime Montgomery serves flights of cocktails that showcase modern reinventions of classic flavours.

“We are thrilled that Al Sud has been awarded its first Michelin star – and the first for the city of Lagos. Our goal has always been to deliver a unique experience here at Palmares, elevating everything from real estate to golfing facilities to gastronomy to the next level. That these efforts have been recognised so swiftly is an affirmation that we are on the right track and provides inspiration for us to go on achieving in 2022.” Commented Alda Filipe, Sales and Marketing Director, Kronos Homes.
