Chow Tai Fook's Latest Collection is a Homage to Tradition and Culture

In their latest collection, Chow Tai Fook infuses tradition, culture and craftsmanship with multiple shades of gold. Jewellery-fan, Ong Chin Huat couldn’t resist taking a closer look.

With their latest campaign, the 90-year-old Hong Kong-based jewellery group Chow Tai Fook have cleverly divided up their newest collection according to the three different shades of gold, namely rose gold, white gold and pure gold with enamel reflecting the nuances of different cultures and tastes of jewellery lovers.

The Life of Nyonya pays homage to the Peranakan or Straits Settlement culture which traces back their history to Chinese immigrants from Guangdong and Fujian province who settled in the Malay Archipelago in the 10th century and later in the 15th through 17th century following the Ming Emperor’s opening of the Chinese-Malay trade relations.

Inspired by the vibrant colours of batik fabric, flower and bird motifs predominate with splashes of red and pink, which denote blessings and good fortune. Combining gold with colours, this collection of charms is reminiscent of typical Peranakan style such as rich embroidery, handmade beading as well as common Peranakan household items like the Tiffin carrier and Gasing (top) as well as edibles like Nyonya cakes which are all handcrafted out of 999 pure gold.

Chow Tai Fook Little Gift Collection

The Chow Tai Fook Little Gift Collection is made in alluring yet simples designs which feature elegant jewellery pieces such as necklaces and bracelets in 18K rose gold – a feminine colour which softens the power of gold. Rose gold also symbolises the tight bonds of eternal friendship, perfect as a gift or token, expressing love and appreciation.
