A Perfect Fit At The Discount Suit Company Cocktail Bar

We review the Discount Suit Company Cocktail Bar, London’s hidden drinking den, set in the basement of a former tailor’s stock room.

A five-minute stroll from Liverpool Street station is one of London’s best speakeasies. Not that you’d know. It’s hidden beneath a random old suit shop, behind a thick, dusty curtain and accessed by some creaky stairs.

This off-the-beaten-track cocktail bar boasts brilliant booze, a cosy, buzzy atmosphere and a brilliant soundtrack to boot. It’s also the sister bar to the Sun Tavern in Bethnal Green.

As the name suggests, the Discount Suit Company once served as a stock room for the suit shop one floor above. Today, it serves up measures of a different kind, which are poured by some seriously skilled bartenders.

The lounge area at the Discount Suit Company

This lesser-known speakeasy feels small and exclusive thanks to the low ceilings and minimal lighting.

The décor is rustic and pays homage to the bar’s former tailoring days. There are exposed brickwork, leather armchairs and tailor-themed props like the mannequin in the corner.

The music’s great, too. Think Motown and Northern Soul, with live DJs on weekends.

The vast array of drinks available at the Discount Suit Company

Drinks-wise, there are eight signature cocktails crafted by the resident team of bartenders. They’ll happily go off-menu if you’re after something bespoke. In fact, it’s encouraged.

If you get peckish, you won’t be disappointed; the artisan cheeseboards come directly from Neal’s Yard Dairy.

The Discount Suit Company is ideal for first dates or after-work drinks. If sublime cocktails, cosiness and a can’t-beat soundtrack sound good, this place will certainly suit you.
