The Hunter’s Moon: South West London’s Brilliant New Foodie Pub

The Hunter’s Moon: South West London’s Brilliant New Foodie Pub

Countryside chic meets Chelsea glam in this newly opened restaurant and pub from the Lunar Pub Company.

Judging by the calibre of food, the smoothness of service and the fact that there was barely space for one more during our visit on an insignificant Saturday, you’d think the Hunter’s Moon had been open for years.

Actually, it opened in late 2019 on Chelsea’s fashionable Fulham Road. The pub and restaurant is a new venture from the duo Hubert Beatson-Hird and Oliver Marlowe (aka the Lunar Pub Company). It’s open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, as well as brunch and Sunday roasts.

The-Hunter's Moon pub food selection

The food’s brilliant. The contemporary European menu changes daily. We enjoyed an Asian-inspired scallop ceviche with whipped avocado and pickled ginger to start, and for mains, melt-in-your-mouth soy blackened salmon with bok choi and slow-cooked beef featherblade with the most incredible triple-cooked parmesan chips. It’s a real foodie pub.

To drink there’s an extensive wine list, all the usual spirits, as well as lagers and real ales.

The bar area inside The Hunter's Moon pub in London

The Hunter’s Moon has two spaces. At the rear of the pub is a light-flooded formal dining room with a mix of booth seating and tables, while the front area is more suited for casual drinks and bar snacks.

Feeling at home is the top priority at the Hunter’s Moon. It’s designed like a Cotswolds’ countryside pub, with earthy-coloured walls and tartan fabrics, comfy armchairs, oak flooring, an original AGA and open fireplaces. A touch of Chelsea glam comes in the form of chandeliers, ornate mirrors and a caged wine display.

The pub attracts a mixed crowd, from young families to first dates, and the energetic, unobtrusive waiting staff keep everything running smoothly. There was nothing to fault during our visit, which is surprising for a pub that’s been open mere months.

The Hunter’s Moon is already a big hit with the locals, so be sure to find out why for yourself before it becomes a go-to for the rest of London.
